Admission Requirements List - Domestic Applicants

U.S. citizens and permanent residents should submit the following items to complete their application to one of IIT’s graduate degree programs in the Armour College of Engineering, the Center for Professional Development and the College of Science and Letters.  This information is also available online at http://www.iit.edu/graduate_admission/prospective_students/checklist.shtml.

  1. Application for admission.  All applicants are strongly encouraged to apply online at http://www.iit.edu/graduate_admission/prospective_students/forms.shtml for the quickest processing time.
  2. Application fee of $40.  The application fee may be paid (a) by credit card or Paypal account when prompted in the online application process, (b) by credit card through the IIT Bursar's Office payment website (select "Application Fee-Graduate" from the drop-down list and send a copy of the payment confirmation email you receive to gradstu@iit.edu), or (c) by check or money order made payable to Illinois Institute of Technology and mailed to the Office of Graduate Admission.
  3. Official, original transcripts of your coursework from all colleges or universities attended.
  4. Professional statement.  Your statement may be submitted (a) as a part of the online application process, (b) as an email attachment sent to gradstu@iit.edu, or (c) as a paper copy sent by mail to the Office of Graduate Admission.  The recommended length is 1-1 1/2 pages.
  5. Letters of recommendation.  Two letters are required for master's applicants, three letters for PhD applicants.  Your recommenders may choose to complete the online recommendation form, write an original letter or to fill out IIT's Letter of Recommendation form, available at http://www.iit.edu/graduate_admission/prospective_students/forms.shtml.  Either option is equally acceptable.  All letters must bear the original signature of the recommender, must be sent in sealed envelopes, and must be dated no more than one year prior to the date we receive them.
  6. Official GRE scores.  Please ask ETS (www.ets.org) to send your scores to institution code 1318.  No department code is required.  The GRE requirement is waived for applicants to professional master's degree programs who hold bachelor’s degrees from an accredited U.S. college or university with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher.  The university minimum GRE score for master’s degree applicants is 900 (quantitative + verbal) plus 2.5 (analytical writing).  The university minimum GRE score for doctoral applicants is 1000 (quantitative + verbal) plus 3.0 (analytical writing). Individual departments may require higher scores for admission.  Please visit http://www.iit.edu/graduate_admission/prospective_students/index.shtml#GRE for more information on minimum score requirements by department and degree level.  GRE scores are considered valid for 5 years from the testing date.

If you have any questions, please email them to inquiry.grad@iit.edu.
